If Fashion Dictated the World Cup Winners...

#2Blondes are not ignoring the World Cup buzz, we will be glued to our screens hoping it’s finally time for England to bring home the trophy. But the biggest World Cup winners this year may not be on the pitch, with social media giants already setting the stage to become the ultimate source for all the drama as it unfolds. Facebook have launched the hub “Trending World Cup”, available on the web and mobile devices, to keep track of all the latest news and goals. With a reported 40% of Facebook’s estimated 1.28 billion users being football fans (or soccer for the Yanks and Aussies) the social platform is expected to dominate as the penultimate social platform for the World Cup…Or is it? Twitter have kicked back at Facebook, stating “the only real-time #WorldCup global viewing party will be on Twitter, where you can track every goal and love every second, both on and off the pitch.” They could in fact have a point, Twitter functions on mobile devices are far superior to Facebook’s and in an age where patience is as thin as England’s chances of winning a game on penalties, what better arena for news, to vent or celebrate – GO ENGLAND!

If there’s one thing that is certain, whether you’re stuck in the office or at a conference, the internet will be a key source for everyone tracking the World Cup this year.

But before all of the drama, tears and potential heartbreak, the team @Plus1Digital can’t help but speculate, heaven forbid England do crash out of the World Cup who do we cheer for then!? #2blondes’ well thought out and ‘logical’ answer — support the teams with the best kits! As much as we would like to say Netherlands (que the plug for your very own P1D) we simply can’t! We have spent endless hours (…minutes) going through each of the 32 Nations featured in the Fifa World Cup 2014 and have narrowed it down to our two top choices for best football shirt. Considering the digital in us this wouldn’t be a proper review without taking into consideration how the shirts would look with additional filters/ effects offered on Instagram, share-ability on Facebook and Twitter, and likeliness to appear on Pinterest boards. Don’t judge us! Although there were quite a few hits and misses, we must say the final decision wasn’t as easy as we first thought. Nonetheless, here is the official #2blondesdigital verdict:

Greece, home shirt

Photo: Nike

In keeping with traditional colours featured in the Greek flag, this snug, fitted shirt by Nike looks extremely clean yet springs to life with the blue cuffs and blue polo collar. You also have the freedom to unfasten the buttons which is very convenient considering they will be playing in extremely hot temperatures in sunny Brazil. You could wear this with pretty much anything, multi-features are always a pro with us!

And our final choice…

Korea, home shirt

Now, although this is slightly conflicting with our above account of white going with everything, the simple fact is that the Korean shirt is probably the only kit that has a sense of national identity and heritage about it (honorary mention – Japan home shirt). Case in question – the collar, a staple of classic, traditional Korean attire and tradition. The subtlety of the blue on the sleeves against the base red, which also represents the “Taegeuk or Yin and Yang symbol from the Korean national flag”, that plus it would look great on girls too! Interesting to note that our top two choices are teams that have never won the World Cup title. Perhaps the P1D official stamp of approval will spur them on to victory #LookGoodPlayGood
