How To Become Insta-Famous

Home › Blog › How To Become Insta-Famous

Here are our top 7 instagram tips for becoming an Instagram sensation! Or insta-famous should we say.

1. Have a thing:

Whether its funny quotes or selfies. Try and have something which people will like you for and think you’re interesting enough to follow and like.

2. Follow others:

Follow similarly minded individuals, if they don’t follow back then you can always unfollow them. A good test to do is follow 50-100 new people, give it a week and unfollow those who don’t follow you back. Try it and let us know how it goes!

3. Use popular hashtags:

Top tip, post your image first then post the hashtags in a comment so you can delete them after a while. Make it easier for yourself by saving the hashtags in your notes so you can quickly copy and paste rather than spend ages re-typing them. Never put more than 3 in the caption. It just looks spammy. You can use apps such as ‘Tag for Likes’ and ‘Westagram’ to figure out the right hashtags for your niche. The top 10 hashtags tend to be: #love #tagforlikes #instagood #me #tbt #me #cute #photooftheday #happy #followme

4. Interact with others:

It’s kind of like a I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine scenario. But it works! Take time to like and comment on some interesting accounts and people will notice you. Comments in particular are a great way to engage with people. If someone leaves a comment on your photo you always look at their profile to see who they are right? And this can lead to a lot of new follows if you spend enough time doing it! Another way to engage people is the ask questions in your captions to drive conversation.

5. Edit your photos:

Take good photos and use apps such as Vsco cam, Afterlight and Squaready to enhance you’re photos. As with all photography try to follow the 1/3 rule and give the image some perspective. Try to take in good, natural lighting and never post a horrible pixelated image! This will not make you insta-famous!

6. Choose a good filter:

Willow is the most popular filter on Instagram. Normal taking second place. Selfies with the hashtag, ‘no filter’ apparently has nearly a 10% increase in engagement, opposed to those without. Other high-contrast and high-saturation filters, like Toaster, Mayfair, Sutro and Hefe ranked highly, while Inkwell, Sierra, 1977 and Rise are the most unpopular filters.

7. Post at a good time:

Here’s the insider info…It might seem obvious but if you post at night, no one will see it. Post in the morning before 9 am when people are travelling and on the way to work. Post at lunch 12-1.30 pm and post in the evening 5.30-6.30 when again people are most likely to be commuting home and these are bound to gain the most likes. However, people are less likely to see your photos on a Friday or Saturday evening as they’re probably having a weekend cocktail at this time.

There you go, you’re ready to take on the Instagram world now!

Here’s some successful Instagram accounts (not from celebrities) that you can follow for your daily scrolling!

@camposwell- This guy is the most followed, non-celebrity and non-brand account. Why? Because he’s got a thing, and that thing is taking hilarious photos of Toy Story’s Woody in various locations. NICHE down.

@blogilates - Cassey Ho really found her ‘thing’ amongst the huge array of fitness fanatic accounts on Instagram.

@mikekus – A UK based graphic designer, illustrator and photographer who’s account took off with his inspirational imagery.

@newyorkcity - A student living in the Big Apple, she takes beautiful images of New York City and has over 1 million followers.

@spoonforkbacon – Classic case of capitalising on a niche. Foodstyling + bacon, what could go wrong!
